Martin Luther King Jr. is, of course, a historical figure we’re all familiar with and with his deep roots in Atlanta it is no wonder there are a multitude of activities around MLK Day in the metro area. From lectures and exhibits to concerts and art, the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday gives us any number of reasons to celebrate Atlanta’s history, heritage, and rich civil rights legacy. The signature event is the MLK March and Rally held on Jan. 15. It begins at 1:15 p.m. at Peachtree Street and Baker Street in Atlanta. There are numerous cities in the area with their own celebrations, with the closest being the MLK Day in Marietta at Turner Chapel AME.
If you would like to introduce your children to the experience, area national parks offer free admission on the day and the Children’s Museum of Atlanta also features special events. Additionally, the Atlanta History Center and the Margaret Mitchell House offer free admission on January 15.
