Local Nov. Events Highlighted

Are you a bookworm? Want to be? Well the Friends of the Roswell Library are having a book sale from Nov. 16– 19. They will have a large quantity of good hard cover and paperbacks featuring fiction and non-fiction genres all in good quality. Additionally they will have DVDs, CDs and a wide selection of children’s books. All proceeds go directly to the Roswell Library to assist in community programs and needed materials. The Roswell Library is located at 115 Norcross Street and only cash or checks are accepted for this event.

In what has become a community institution, Roswell Dance Theatre will present The Nutcracker at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center from Nov. 24 through Dec. 3. Produced by the Tolbert Yilmaz School of Dance for the 28th year, this is the oldest and largest Nutcracker production in North Atlanta with over 300 cast members. Sugarplums will be dancing in your head as you enjoy dancing cupcakes, mice, soldiers, and an array of favorite characters. For more info visit www.tysod.com.

The folks at South Main Kitchen (SMK) on Main Street in Downtown Alpharetta are hosting the first Annual Butcher and Brew Fest on Nov. 11. Whether you are a beer or cocktail aficionado, a seasoned beer drinker, or someone who is new to the craft beer beverage scene, this fest aims is to give you the opportunity to taste a large number craft selections, many seasonal, in one place at one time. They will have unlimited tasting samples available and you can enjoy giant jenga, corn hole, photo center and delicious food off the Big Green Egg from Chef Andy Long. All for one ticket price with part of the proceeds benefiting The Drake House. The event is held in the Alley at SMK and runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m

Not sure if this is true but I’ve heard that Matilda’s might be closing and that means their great music series Matilda’s Under The Pines might be in jeopardy. In Nov. they have two shows with Jess Groggans on Nov. 11 and Swami Gone Bananas on Nov. 18. If you have not been you’re missing out. These guys put on some great music all outside under the pine trees. It’s a great time out. Matilda’s is located at 377 South Main Street in Alpharetta. If you go, shoo away the developers!

Avalon gets into the holiday spirit with a tree lighting on Nov. 19 and the start of Avalon on Ice Nov. 20. ’Tis the season to lace up your skates and glide into the holiday spirit at this Rockefeller-inspired ice skating rink. It will run until Jan. 21.

The folks in Johns Creek swing into holiday action with their Christmas Tree and Dreidel event on Nov. 30. Hot chocolate, holiday treats, and live music make this a fun filled family event. Local elementary school choruses accentuate the festive air with a selection of seasonal favorites before the Mayor throws the switch. Boxes for the “Toys for Tots” annual toy drive will be on hand to accept new, unwrapped toys or games. Event takes place at Newtown Park located at 3150 Old Alabama Road from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
