The City of Roswell will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, November 30, to celebrate the completion of the new roundabout at the intersection of Houze Road/State Route 140 and Hembree Roads.
The ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church, 11450 Houze Road, Roswell.
The two-lane roundabout at Houze and Hembree Roads became fully operational as of mid-November 2017. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) transformed what used to be a standard, signalized intersection with no turn lanes into a two-lane roundabout to improve safety and relieve congestion. The project also includes a multi-use trail on the south side of Hembree Road that will connect with the existing trail near Upper Hembree Road.
The Houze/Hembree Roundabout is one of the first multi-lane roundabouts on a state route in Georgia. The construction cost for the Houze/Hembree Roundabout is approximately $4.4 million and was funded by GDOT. The City of Roswell contributed $353,500 toward preliminary engineering and design and right-of-way acquisition.
The City of Roswell has set up www.roswellgov.com/roundabouts to help drivers learn how to properly navigate a two-lane roundabout.
