Brought to you by Cruise Planners and The Current Hub
By Tara Gary
When I was 18 years old, I backpacked through Europe by myself over the summer. I had family in Germany who welcomed me to check back in ever so often, let me do laundry, (thankfully to those around me) bathe, and fed me delicious home-cooked meals. It was a trip of a lifetime. I met so many great (and sometimes not so great) individuals, and quickly learned to trust my instincts. Traveling without an agenda, other than to make it to the next destination—wherever the wind blew me, safely.
Back then we did not have cellphones or the luxury of a GPS. I had a few maps and relied on youth hostels for a place to lay my head at night. There were nights I would arrive at a youth hostel to find no vacancy or that I had arrived too late to check-in. Yes, there were times I huddled in train stations next to the police headquarters to catch a few minutes of sleep. I learned to board trains at night, resting and waking up in new and exciting destinations. Some of the friendships I formed are still with me today and that was over thirty years ago.
Though I truly enjoyed that trip, my idea of traveling has vastly matured. Gone are the days of me aimlessly wandering with little or no planning. Now when I travel, I research my destination relying on the recommendations of those who have left their comments and opinions on various travel websites. Researching flights, accommodations, transportation options, and everything else related to a trip can be exhausting. The last trip I “planned” was a road trip across the country. By the second day, I used the back of my initial itinerary to make a list of the places we intend to visit on our next road trip. The time I spent creating that itinerary was time I could have spent packing more appropriate footwear. Granted, that road trip was amazing, but I do wish I would have had more information about our stops prior to the journey.
About a week after that trip I had lunch with Mark Penstone, the publisher of The Current Hub, and Michael Consoli, owner of Cruise Planners–Michael Consoli & Associates, the number one producing Cruise Planners Agency in the country since 2016. Listening to Michael describe some of the many destinations and trips he has taken made me yearn to travel differently. Why hadn’t I consulted an expert about my traveling needs and desires before? I rely on the expertise of a professional physician when I am sick. I seek professional mechanics to fix my car. Why would I not seek a professional to advise me when traveling? I work too hard to spend my time relentlessly planning a well-deserved vacation, as I am sure you do as well.
Michael had my full attention when he started talking about the Viking Cruises he had been on. I love those commercials of the luxurious Viking ships traveling through the vineyard-covered hills of the Rhine River. When both Mark and I interjected our intentions to one day join Michael on one of those cruises, he responded with a brilliant idea, “Why don’t we start a travel club?” And so formed—The Hub Travel Club.

In today’s fast-paced world, everyone is pressed for time. Booking a vacation can be extremely stressful if you approach it the DIY way. With so much information available on the internet, you can literally spend hours in front of a computer, jumping from one site to another, searching for the best vacation to only end up frustrated with more unanswered questions.
Travelers can save time, money, and a whole lot of headaches by using a travel advisor. Cruise Planners Travel Advisors can provide everything you need to book a perfect vacation:
- Insider access to deals
- Group space and upgraded amenities
- Early booking discounts
- Special fares
- Hotel deals
- Various modes of transportation
What’s great about travel advisors is that consumers don’t pay them—the cruise line or tour provider does—so it doesn’t cost any extra money for travelers.
From cruises and resorts, to land tours and completely packaged vacations, they specialize in all types of travel and will create an unforgettable vacation just for you.
Travel is complex—especially if you are not sure where you want to go—traveling abroad, with little ones, or in a group. There are hundreds of details that go into every trip. Land or cruise, they will guide you through the entire travel planning process. They have exclusive tools to help you through packing for the right trip, booking the best shore excursions for your activity level, and providing you with social media tools that help you share your plans with other members in your traveling group, and so much more. All this is accessible from your computer and in the palm of your hand with their free Cruise Planners Mobile app.
I don’t know about you but my days of backpacking through Europe on $5 a day are well over. It’s nice to know everything—down to the last detail—has been taken care of so all you need to do is enjoy the ride!
